The Chicago Bulls are one of the best teams in the NBA, while the New Orleans Hornets are at the bottom of the league. However, in the first game back from the 2012 NBA All-Star break, the Bulls almost dropped a game in front of their home fans to the lowly Hornets.

With 1:15 remaining, the Bulls trailed by four points. But that’s when reigning MVP Derrick Rose took over. He hit a pair of free throws. Then Joakim Noah tipped in a Rose miss to tie the game. Rose followed that up with a long jumper and two more free throws to give the Bulls a 99-95 win.

Rose finished the game with 32 points and nine assists. Joakim Noah added 15 points, 16 rebounds and five assists.

The Hornets used a balance attack to stay close to the Bulls. Chris Kaman led the way with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Trevor Ariza chipped in 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The win improved the Bulls to 28-8, while the Hornets fell to 8-26.

Getting diagnosed with a concussion is now a big deal in the

Kobe Bryant probably wishes he would have skipped the 2012 NBA All-Star Game now. Not only did Dwyane Wade break his nose, the impact of Wade’s hard foul caused a concussion. Now Kobe’s status going forward is unknown.

Getting diagnosed with a concussion is now a big deal in the NBA. To get cleared for action again, Kobe is going to have to convince an independent doctor that he’s free from all concussion symptoms.

Add Kobe’s concussion with his broken nose and the Los Angeles Lakers might decide to sit him out for a week or two. It’s a shame since Kobe was hurt trying to entertain the fans in a meaningless All-Star game.

As for Wade, he has apologized to Kobe for the hard foul. Despite the apology, Kobe’s teammate Pau Gasol didn’t like the foul.

“I think it was out of place — out of line,” said Gasol, “for the moment and the game that it was.”

The Lakers take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.

The good news for Howard is that the Achilles tendon

Ryan Howard is attempting to recover from Achilles tendon surgery. However, the slugging first baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies had a setback recently when it was discovered that his foot was infected at the surgical site.

The good news for Howard is that the Achilles tendon wasn’t damaged by the infection. To treat the infection, his doctors cleaned the area and put him on antibiotics.

Scott Sheridan, the trainer for the Phillies, says that such setbacks aren’t cause for alarm.

Said Sheridan: “I think it’s common for the skin behind the Achilles to have trouble healing. I don’t know that it’s common for the infection to occur. But I do know that the area is a tough area to heal.”

Howard is expected to miss at least the first month of the season while he recovers. This setback may alter that time frame, however.

Mike Stanton was one of the best young sluggers in baseball last season. But he’s no more. The Miami Marlins outfielder wants to be known as Giancarlo Stanton from now on. Considering his legal name is Giancarlo Cruz Michael Stanton, it’s not too odd of a request.

He said that too many people didn’t now how to say “Giancarlo” growing up so he decided to go with Mike. However, many of his friends have always called him Giancarlo — so he decided to go back to it.

His Marlins teammates didn’t seem to have a problem with the name change.

“If he keeps hitting homers,” John Buck said, a catcher for the Marlins, “I’ll call him whatever he wants me to call him.”

Last season, the slugger formerly known as Mike Stanton hit .262 with 34 homers and 87 RBIs. Still just 22 years old, he has as much home run potential as any player in the game.

Giancarlo will attempt to carry on that tradition this season.

Clipper Darrell is a Clippers fan who has been loudly supporting the team

The Los Angeles Clippers are playing their best basketball ever. Their franchise appears to be on the way up. But, like usual, the Clippers have found a way to mess things up. This time, it involves a fan.

Clipper Darrell is a Clippers fan who has been loudly supporting the team for more than a dozen years. At virtually every game, he has been the team’s loudest fan. Through their many years of losing, Clipper Darrell’s dedication to the team never wavered.

However, now that the Clippers are actually good, the franchise has decided it no longer need Clipper Darrell. In fact, the Clippers have told him to no longer call himself “Clipper Darrell”.

The oddest part of that request is that the media gave him that name — it wasn’t even his own doing. But the Clippers don’t care about that, they only want to make as much money as they possibly can.

Clipper Darrell, you deserved better.

And to the Clippers franchise, you should be ashamed of yourself.

But then again, the Clippers will always been the Clippers.

When you think of the Pittsburgh Steelers, you think of Hines Ward. He’s the player who most epitomized the toughness and the attitude that the Steelers bring the the game each week. But that time has come to an end. Hines Ward has been released by the Steelers.

“Hines has been an integral part of our success since we drafted him in 1998,” said Art Rooney II, the president of the Steelers, “and we will forever be grateful for what he has helped us achieve.”

While it’s not a shock that Ward has been released, it’s sad to see an end of an era. Since 1999, Ward has had at least 46 catches in each season.

But in the last two years, Ward’s production has slipped. After totally 1,167 receiving yards in 2009, he had only 1,136 yards in the previous two seasons.

Going forward, expect the Steelers to build around their stable of young receivers that includes Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders.
